Though he slay me : a story of courage shining through heartaches such as few of us have experienced

Though He Slay Me
I have this book now for nearly 20 years. I have to get new copies because it is continuously being borrowed from my library. This book is a story of a couple in Christian ministry who suffer at the hands of their "Christian" but unsaved members and church leaders. But the faith and courage is so encouraging it is a book that I would recommend to present day Pastor's wives, especially from the more established and traditional church organizations. God's grace is sufficient.

To His Excellency Thomas Jefferson: Letters to a President

To His Excellency Thomas Jefferson: Letters to a President
Jack McLaughlin has put together a volume dedicated to the letters written to Thomas Jefferson asking for help, money, adoring admiration, or passionately political. Jefferson wrote back or was silent, but he had feelings for all of them whether irritation or callousness, civility or graciousnes. Jefferson wrote letters from earily sunrise till one or two in the afternoon in his later years. He wrote at his writing table up till nine days prior to his death. He had arthritis in his writing hand from older injuries, but if he recieved a civil letter he nonetheless found time to answer it... even if not knowing the person who wrote it.

This book is extreamly valuable to see the American psychi of that time... a looking glass into the past. We see the intellectual and cultural lives of the people who wrote to Jefferson. The letters are fun to read... eaves-dropping on history, peeking into the lives of Americans long forgotten.

All the letters have a strong feeling for the purpose to which they were written, capitvating the reader. I found the book to have a fascinating but charming view into the Jefferson mailbag.

If you want to live history vicariously at its rote basic, what better way than to live it through the letters of the time. And letters seemed to follow Jefferson, as Jefferson wrote many. As the general public of undstinguished Americans wrote, they recorded their thoughts for posterity... it is with a distinct pleasure to relive their lives.

This book is a piece of priceless Americana at its finest, enjoyable to read and it will captivate.

Topographical Memoir
Published in Hardcover by Ye Galleon Pr (November, 1998)
Author: Thomas Jefferson Cram

If your a history fanatic, you need this BOOK!
The book is a very descriptive text of life on the frontier in the Pacific Northwest. It outlines the true nature of the struggles between the indians of that region and the settlers that wanted to displace them. It was very unpopular for a West Point Academy graduate to come to the defense of the indian during that era but never the less Capt. Cram did so and his report was published. Many notes about the specific problems associated with travel through and around the more mountainous regions are outlined. The period of time that is covered in the book spans a good portion of the 1850's so...readers who enjoy reading about the people that shaped this country...get your copy now and you will be glad you did!

Great Plant Ideas for the West
I was so thankful that I found this book in the library and had to buy a copy. Wonderful book for a former Southern like me that recently moved to COlorado. I was desperate for ideas about what to plant in my new hot, dry, ever sunny high-altitude climate. This book gave me great ideas and fabulous instructions for how to landscape as well. Highly recommended!

Vegas, Live and in Person

Exceptionally detailed review of vegas and its people
This believed to be out of print book, offers an exceptionally detailed review of Las vegas and what makes its people tic. filled with hundreds of pictures, inside stories, and information from the cities early days to such historical events as the MGM fire, the book concentrates however on the people that work in Las Vegas and make this such a special town. However the book is quickly dated as the town is ever changing, it does have a little story about steve Wynn, and the building of the Mirage, so the book is before the renaissance of the early 1990's. It offers lots of looks at many hotels that have vanished, a collectors must have. Peter Huender (Vegaspeter) e-Vegas

Web of Futures (Tsr-Books Novel)

Author: Jefferson P. Swycaffer
Average review score:

I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed, I have never forgotten.
All of Swycaffer's books are great, some are classic pursuit novels like Universal Prey, Warsprite, etc. This, like some of his others, is one of a kind. You'll never forget it. I told people that at one point, 3/4ths of the way through this book, I had to hold it up in front of my face, as I read it at lunch at a fast food place, to hide the tears coming out of my eyes. They said "Sounds like a sad, depressing book; won't try it." That's NOT why I was crying. I was moved, rewarded, what else can I say? It was NOT a depressing book. Haven't you ever cried from the heart, or because of delight, etc.?

William Jefferson Clinton (Profiles of the Presidents)
Published in School & Library Binding by Compass Point Books (January, 2002)
Author: Ann Heinrichs
Average review score:

A nice introductory junvile biography of Bill Clinton
In setting the tone for this juvenile biography of William Jefferson Clinton for the Profiles of the Presidents series, Ann Heinrichs highlights Clinton's reputation as the "Comeback Kid," who never quits. This is used to explain why Clinton defeated an incumbent Republican president who enjoyed the highest popularity rating of all time, became the first Democratic president to be re-elected since Franklin Roosevelt, and survived an impeachment. The key question for most teachers or parents before recommending this book for young readers may well be what does this book have to say about the impeachment and the circumstances around it. Heinrichs explains that Clinton was accused of having improper relations with a young female White House intern and that when questioned about it, Clinton did not tell the truth. With regards to the resolution, she makes two points. First, that most Americans apparently cared more about the booming U.S. economy than about Clinton's personal life. Second, that the Clintons were cleared of any wrongdoing in the six-year, multi-million dollar Whitewater investigation. That is certainly even-handed enough and it is reasonable that a volume that is perfectly suited to being a young student's introduction to the life of this particular President does not get into the sordid details.

This book does provide some indication of what it meant to label Clinton a "New Democrat," but most of the emphasis is the key events in his political career. Young readers might have a hard time distinguishing between those things that Clinton wanted to do, such as provide a major overhaul of the U.S. health system, and what his Administration actually did accomplish during his two terms in the White House. But given that the Profiles of the Presidents series is ideally suited to be the first juvenile biography students read about Clinton or any other President, emphasizing biographical details over political philosophy makes a certain amount of sense. One of the signatures of this superb little series is that these books are profusely illustrated with historic and contemporary photographs (including a photograph of the Clinton birthplace in Hope, Arkansas, taken in a pouring rain, and the famous one of young Clinton shaking hands with President Kennedy), most of which are in color. In the back of the book you will find a glossary, fast facts about the president, a parallel timeline of world and presidential events, an index, and other resources that young readers can use to help them understand the life and times of William Jefferson Clinton better.
